2025 Training Year Auckland Ophthalmology Non Training Registrar Programme
· Learn from world class doctors
· Gain experience to apply for the ophthalmology training programme
· Experience a diverse population and a wide variety of patient presentations
About the role
The 12-month Non Training Registrar (NTR) post involves hands-on exposure to a wide variety of eye conditions, principally in the acute setting.
The Acute Eye Service (AES) at Greenlane Clinical Centre is the only service of its kind for the entire Auckland Region, providing a wide mix of ocular disease entities.
As a Non Training Registrar, you will help aid in the day-to-day running of the AES under the supervision of a senior consultant, fellow, or on-call registrar.
You will gain clinical experience as outlined by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists' (RANZCO) Basic Clinical Competencies and Knowledge (OBCK) Curriculum Standards, and obtain formal accreditation in independent intravitreal injection and intraocular laser procedures.
There is a small component of service work within the ophthalmology ward (Totara Ward) and in pre-admit clinics. This is an ideal stepping-stone from which to apply for the ophthalmology training registrar positions, as supported on-call duties are in accordance with RANZCO scoring criteria.
Eligibility Criteria
Have a strong interest in ophthalmology and ideally experience in an ophthalmology house officer run.
Must have completed two House Officer Years at the start of the 2025 training year (28 January 2025).
Be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
Please check the RANZCO website for further information regarding eligibility for the Ophthalmology Training Programme, should you wish to continue on to vocational training in ophthalmology after you gain the required Non Training experience.
