Job Description
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
The School of Computer Science at the University of Auckland is currently looking for two early career academics to join our diverse and internationally renowned School at Lecturer level. If you are passionate about teaching and research, want to build lasting collaborations, and value diversity, we encourage you to apply.
We are seeking dynamic candidates with expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI), or any closely related fields. The ideal candidates should have experience in one of the following research domains: Generative AI and Foundation Models, AI for Ethical Decision-Making and Bias Mitigation, AI-Driven Drug Discovery and Healthcare Applications, Explainable AI (XAI) and Interpretability, and Autonomous Systems and Robotics. Industrial experience and/or experience of collaborative research with industrial partners would be a significant advantage.
The School recognises this area as a priority, and we expect the successful candidates to contribute to the Master of AI and other similar programs offered by the School. The School values interdisciplinary research and teaching and is actively involved in several cross-faculty/cross-university research projects and educational programmes. Thus, the successful candidates must be capable of and interested in facilitating cross-disciplinary interactions both within Computer Science and across the university.
Duties include the development of the applicants' own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research students.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
A PhD in AI or an area closely related to this research discipline
Strong track-record of research as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in high-reputable conferences and journals in the field of AI
Demonstrated potential for research and grant funding success
Evidence of exposure to teaching at undergraduate/postgraduate levels
A commitment to high-quality research-informed teaching of both undergraduate and graduate students.
Demonstratable potential to build sustainable relationships with industry partners and the ability to promote partnerships with external/professional organisations/agencies.
Have an established network of research collaborators
Capable of successfully teaching AI and Machine Learning courses
This is a permanent, full-time 1 FTE (40 hours per week) role.
Remuneration: $94,981 - $113,465 (experience dependant)

The successful applicants must also contribute to the School activities including world-class research, high-calibre teaching of large undergraduate courses and postgraduate courses, as well as the supervision of dissertations at the Honour's, Master's and PhD levels. You will have excellent teaching skills and be a highly motivated, team player with leadership potential. You will have a strong interest in providing learning support for Maori and Pasifika students; engage with Industry and stakeholders including Maori and Pasifika communities.
Additionally, it would be nice to have:
Spent some years as Postdoc/Research Fellow
1-2 years demonstrated tertiary teaching experience.
Demonstrated effective supervision of PhD or Masters to completion
Evidence of curricula design of undergraduate/postgraduate levels
Demonstrable potential for establishing meaningful engagements with Maori and/or Pasifika communities and stakeholders
Experience developing new teaching content and resources, and undertaking course coordination
