Strategic Planning Lead, Environmental Policy – 12 month fixed term Policy, Planning & Regulation (Government & Defence)At Transpower, we are committed to environmental sustainability and enabling the reduction of New Zealand's overall energy emissions as we transition to a net zero carbon economy.Our Sustainability Strategy 2020 sets clear goals and enabling actions across the areas of climate change, environmental stewardship, sustainable business and our communities.About the teamOur Environment Group (EG) manages Transpower's environmental policy, strategy and project risks associated with maintaining, upgrading and developing the national grid.About the opportunity - 12 month parental leave coverBased in Wellington or Christchurch, we are seeking a Strategic Planning Lead to join our team for a fixed term.In this future-focused, outward-looking, leadership position within the Environment Group (EG), you will provide strategic advice and engagement to support the Head of Environment. Your input will be sought on a range of matters, including legislative reform, Regional Development Plans (Bay of Plenty and Southland) and Spatial plans across the motu.As our legislative landscape rapidly evolves, you will work thoughtfully with our interested parties to maintain strong relationships whilst concurrently advocating for change to help ensure the operation, maintenance, upgrade and development of the grid is enabled.You will be a key conduit between internal teams and external parties such as Ministries, Local Government, Regulatory Authorities, Maori (iwi/hapu/mana whenua), Kainga Ora, NGOs (e.g. Federated Farmers, Forest & Bird, etc) and key energy sector partners.The work you do is significant as you:Advocate for the recognition and provision of existing and future National Grid assets in legislation, regulations and local authority spatial plans;Develop a planned approach to stakeholder engagement activity in support of strategic/statutory planning for Council spatial/growth plans and other infrastructure developments; andProvide mentoring support and coaching to the team on current and evolving strategic planning developments.About youYou are a brilliant problem solver who considers the bigger picture and can think laterally about issues, risks and opportunities. You bring outstanding relationship management abilities, a collaborative approach to your work, initiative and sound judgement.Your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:15+ years' experience in environmental policy, planning and supporting stakeholder engagement.Excellent facilitation skills, and an ability to facilitate workshops, present information and display ideas in a way that is effective and engaging to your audience.Ability to influence others to achieve the required outcomes through sound evidence-based knowledge and professional credibility.Effective relationship management skills including working with iwi/hapu, customers and wider community.Experience in Council and community engagement processes, including public meetings, Council hearings and Environment Court mediation.Degree in resource management, environmental planning or another field (e.g. geography, environmental science), preferably recognised by the New Zealand Planning Institute.Experience of Te Ao Maori, and working with/for a large infrastructure provider, is desirable.
