As Senior Procurement Specialist, your interfacing within industry will represent the interests of Stats NZ in our role as the lead agency for government-held data. You will ensure the voice of the industry is heard internally in supporting the Stats NZ outputs and priorities. You will provide strategic and commercial advice and support the senior leadership of Stats NZ and undertake corporate, ICT and social procurements.
The role of Senior Procurement Specialist is within the Commercial Arrangements Branch within the Technology, Operations, Commercial & Collections Group, which reports directly to the Chief Executive. Commercial Arrangements is responsible for providing Stats NZ with expert commercial advice and procurement practice for the higher value, higher complexity acquisitions.
As the Senior Procurement Specialist, both your IQ and EQ will be tested as you meet the needs of our Stats NZ employees across the country. You will also support the Transformation, Digital and future NZ Census programme, where required and acquire shared services for other agencies. You will need to understand the business needs, work programmes and objectives to deliver the tactical procurement using the resources of the acquisition/project team.
On the daily you will be responsible for anticipating and managing the legal, reputational and procurement risks associated with procurement activities across the organisation. As a senior member of the Procurement team you will mentor and coach junior Procurement Staff ensuring consistent delivery of quality procurement advice and support services across Stats NZ.

Has strong commercially acumen and prioritises thinking over processCan confidently deliver end to end ICT, corporate and social procurement either by themselves or as part of a teamCan prioritise within a rapidly changing work environmentIs a confident communicator that brings people with you, verbally and in writing.Able to discuss and translate the finer details of the corporate and ICT needs while maintaining a clear vision of the bigger pictureHas a clear vision of how to improve lives through the procurement professionHolds a tertiary (degree-level or higher) qualification in business, commerce or similarMinimum of five (5) years' work experience as a Procurement and Contracts Specialist, with experience in executing ICT and large and complex procurements.Embraces, or has a willingness to learn about, Te Tiriti, Tikanga, Te Reo and Te Ao Maori.We understand transferable skills can come from experience gained from outside of work.
