Youth Work - Kaimahi Taiohi

Our Alternative Education programme in Whanganui supports and develops rangatahi to enjoy the learning process and to re-engage with education.We are seeking a Kaimahi Taiohi to join our team in walking beside these young people providing the care and support they need to ensure their success.This is a 35 hour per week position that offers the chance to:Develop your own expertise in youth work and/or educationAdd value through the use of your individual skills and strengthsBuild relationships and connections with other community agenciesOn a day-to-day basis in this position you will work in the classroom supporting the delivery of lessons, working with students and their whanau towards a transition back into mainstream school, and assisting with other classroom administration.Our ideal candidate will be trained in (or studying towards a qualification in) youth work, social services, or education, and will bring the commitment and skills to work with young people from challenging situations.The successful applicant will receive fortnightly one-to-one supervision from an external supervisor.YMCA is committed to Child Protection and the safeguarding of children and young people in our care, and it is our expectation that all staff will operate in a way that reflects this intent.
