The Digital and Information Services Directorate at Queen's University Belfast is currently seeking to appoint an Assistant Librarian/Project Archivist to work in the Special Collections & Archives Department based in the award-winning McClay Library.
Special Collections and Archives provides access to the Library's rare books and manuscript collection, as well as modern material relating to Ireland and Ulster in particular. The books, pamphlets, journals, manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, and maps located here are considered to be of lasting research value. The Library has recently acquired a number of modern political collections.
The postholder will be responsible to the Head of Special Collections & Archives for a range of duties relating to the cataloguing and preservation of these collections to recognised professional standards.
The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have: A relevant qualification in Archival Management or Library and Information Studies or working towards such a qualification OR be educated to degree level in a relevant subject area e.g. politics or history OR have substantial relevant experience working in archives or special collections. Relevant professional experience in a similar or related role, including: Demonstrable understanding of current trends in the management of digital resources. Demonstrable well-developed independent research skills. Experience in training/teaching small or large groups. Detailed professional knowledge of archive standards and management practices, academic library operations, and an understanding of trends in information management and delivery. Detailed operational knowledge of at least one of the following: Archival and or Library Management Systems. Resource discovery and management tools.
