Tractor operators for the grass-growing seasons & general all-rounders: We're currently seeking expressions of interest from individuals interested in working as Tractor Mower Operators along the rural and arterial routes of Waikato/Waipa.
Centrally located Hamilton depot: Our client, conveniently based in Hamilton, operates from 6 am to 6 pm during peak mowing seasons, boasting a fleet of Massey Ferguson, Iseki, SAME, and John Deere tractors. This role is well-suited for former dairy farmers.
What you will be doing: Tractor operators in our client's "Vegetation Control Team" utilise tractor-mounted boom/reach mowers for roadside grass maintenance. While experience with reach mowers, hedge cutters, sickle bars, mulching flair heads, and saw blades is a plus, it's not mandatory. The role involves various tasks within the Vegetation Control Team, including ride-on mowing, weed spraying, chainsaw operation, chipper work, and site clean-up post-vegetation trimming/removal. Experience in farm fence work is also advantageous.
Working in close vicinity of the public: Some of the mowing work may also take place in built-up commercial areas, including mowing lawns near the public. You must maintain a professional and polite demeanour in your interactions with the general public, ensuring you represent our client well and prioritise the safety of pedestrians.
Requirements: You must hold a Full New Zealand Driver's License with manual transmission operation skills, the ability to reverse a trailer, and extensive tractor operating experience (a W endorsement is preferred). T&R endorsements are advantageous. Candidates must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol tests and be open to random testing.
Nice-to-haves: Additional qualifications such as Construct Safe, Grow Safe, Chainsaw Qualification, and First Aid Level 1 are beneficial but not essential. Experience in traffic management is also advantageous.
Additional responsibilities: In addition to tractor operation, versatility, and willingness to assist other teams when needed are valued traits. Other team responsibilities may include civil work, construction crew tasks, landscaping, pilot driving, and roadside maintenance. No job is too big or too small, including tasks like picking up litter on the side of the road or emptying rubbish bins.
Initial term: This is initially a temporary position for the grass growing season, with potential for long-term placement. The client offers on-site and on-the-job training opportunities, including external training for suitable candidates. The role requires a good level of fitness and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Pay rate: The starting pay rate is $26.00 per hour.
Team ethos: Our client's teams are diverse in age and culture, with a primary focus on safety, teamwork, reliability, and a positive attitude. A cheerful, can-do approach is essential, along with proven reliability to ensure team effectiveness.
