Te Ture Whanui o Waitaha, Community Law Canterbury is a not-for-profit organisation that works to reduce and remove barriers to the law. CLC provides accessible, quality legal help and advice to people in Canterbury and the West Coast, who face barriers in accessing justice and doing so in alignment with Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the values of CLC. The CLC works with key justice and social agencies to ensure the right services are available to those people who really need them. After a long period of exceptional service, the current Supervising Lawyer has resigned, and we now need a talented, people focused senior lawyer or two part time senior lawyers in a job sharing arrangement, to take on this vital role. Reporting to the Kaiwhakahaere/Chief Executive, and leading a capable and varied team of professionals, the Supervising Solicitor(s) takes overall leadership of the legal services team for the achievement of key strategic objectives of the organisation. CLC practices in a wide range of law, including but not limited to family, employment, ACC, tenancy, debt and insolvency, criminal, and insurance law. In doing this the Supervising Solicitor will: Ensure legal team members have clarity around performance expectations and are provided with the mentoring and support to deliver those expectations. Ensure the legal services offered are of the highest quality and standards meeting the obligations of CLC to the public and funding bodies. Incorporate cultural responsiveness into legal services provided by CLC, ensuring greater access to justice for tangata whenua.
