Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, Northland is currently looking for a motivated Speech Language Therapist to join our team Whangarei Hospital. There is flexibility in where this role will be based with options including outpatient and acute wards. This role is working predominantly with individuals aged 16 and over.
About the role
The role of Speech Language Therapist is a Fixed Term position ending 31 January 2025, there is potential for this role to continue beyond the fixed term. You will be working up to 40 hours a week Monday to Friday, to cover maternity leave for the present incumbent of the position. Part-time will also be considered.
The primary function of this role is provide clinical and professional practice; to assess and treat designated inpatients or outpatients with communication and swallowing disorders. Working within a multi-disciplinary team; you will have the ability to empathise and communicate effectively with patients, particularly elders and their families/'whanau in a culturally safe manner and it is desirable for the successful applicant to have experience working with adults in a hospital setting.
Key Requirements:
Degree in Speech Language Therapy or equivalent
Membership of NZSTA
Previous experience working in the field of Speech Language Therapy
Excellent English language communication skills (both oral and written)
Current NZ Driver's license or International Driver's Permit
Whilst not essential; the following education and/or skills are desirable for this position:
Completion of a specialised courses in related fields such as dysphagia, voice, aphasia
Postgraduate experience in treating neurologically based communication disorders
Postgraduate experience in treating dysphagia
