This is a part-time permanent position (0.5 FTE)Te Whatu Ora – Te Tai Tokerau is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and holds stewardship for equitable health outcomes for Maori as Tangata Whenua as the highest priority.Te Whatu Ora – Te Tai Tokerau provides public health services across the Northland region, from north of Wellsford to Cape Reinga. Whangarei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland providing secondary care services, supported by three rural hospitals in Kaitaia; Kawakawa, and Dargaville.We are looking for a motivated medical specialist to provide effective and high-quality intensive care medicine to the Northland community. The successful candidate will work in the Department of Intensive Care Medicine and will participate in teaching and training resident medical staff as well as be actively involved in the consultant on call roster for ICU.The Intensive Care Unit is a modern nine bed department providing care for 525 patient admissions per year, with over 40% mechanically ventilated. We provide an ICU outreach service and hold an accreditation for training by the College of Intensive Care Medicine. Currently, we have eight Intensivists contributing to a 1:9 roster and 8 registrars and 1 SHO providing cover 24/7. Every day, we see a wide range of presentations including paediatrics and major trauma. We provide medical and nursing cover for our busy flight retrieval service in conjunction with Northern Rescue Helicopter limited (NRHL) – overseeing approximately 480 helicopter transfers per year.Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres with a growing population of more than 190,000.
