Senior Technician - Ecology - Manaaki Whenua Science New Zealand – Christchurch, South Island
Manaaki Whenua is New Zealand's Crown Research Institute (CRI) for our land and environment. We are responsible for supporting New Zealand to develop a sustainable relationship with our land, through the delivery of exceptional science across a wide range of disciplines.
We are looking for a motivated person to support our research on the ecology of forests, wetlands, other natural ecosystems, and urban areas. The successful applicant will help lead, coordinate, and implement field campaigns across Aotearoa New Zealand in collaboration with a national team of ecologists and technicians. These will include a range of biodiversity monitoring and assessment projects, predominantly focused on plants but also on native and introduced animals.
The starting remuneration would be between $84,000 and $93,000 per annum depending on relevant experience. This position is a permanent, full-time position that reports to a Capability Leader within the Ecosystems & Conservation Team and is based at our Lincoln site.
You will hold a postgraduate qualification in ecology or a related discipline, with at least 5 years of relevant field work experience. You will have a good working knowledge of the New Zealand flora and expertise in botanical surveys. Experience building and maintaining professional relationships with a variety of people, and especially Maori communities is strongly desired. You will be a flexible, pragmatic, self-starter, able to travel throughout Aotearoa New Zealand, and have a genuine interest in the ecology and conservation of Aotearoa New Zealand's flora and fauna.
