About the opportunity:

Auckland South Corrections Facility (Kohuora ASCF) is seeking a Senior Psychologist to join our team. The successful candidate will take on a leadership, supervisory and training role in the prison's Psychological Services and Interventions team, alongside other Psychologists and Programme Facilitators. This role involves conducting assessments, providing rehabilitation therapy, and supporting other psychologists in the team to do the same. The role offers $114,027.65 to $124,521.04 depending on experience.

Key responsibilities:

Conduct psychological assessments of people serving prison sentences. This includes using validated tools and clinical reasoning to identify the key risk factors, protective factors, and responsivity barriers relevant to their rehabilitation and reintegration.

Write assessment reports that formulate offending, estimate risk of reoffending, and provide recommendations on rehabilitation and reintegration pathways.

Work within a framework of evidence-based practice, cultural safety, and the unique needs of the individual to provide therapy aimed at living an offense-free life.

Write case notes and treatment reports that document progress on key treatment targets.

Be attuned to the risk of self-harm, harm to others, and harm from others, and respond appropriately to uphold a high standard of safety and care.

Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss rehabilitation, reintegration, and wellbeing plans.

Support other psychologists in their work through internal supervision, reviewing reports, and reviewing psychometrics.

Your ideal qualifications, skills, and experience:

Current registration with the New Zealand Psychologists Board (Clinical, Counselling, or General scope). This entails having at least a Master's degree in Psychology.

At least five years' postgraduate experience in psychological assessment and intervention with a range of presentations, ideally within a correctional setting.

A commitment to bicultural practice and associated Departmental strategies, such as Hokai Rangi.

Strong knowledge of evidenced-based psychological assessment principles and therapeutic modalities.

An understanding of the major offense categories and theories that explain different offending pathways.

A caring, non-judgmental nature, and a commitment to helping people make positive change in their lives.

An ability to foster cultural safety with people from a range of cultural backgrounds.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work effectively in a prison environment.

Strong ethical standards and adherence to professional guidelines.

Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the provision of psychological services.

Experience in providing clinical supervision or a willingness to develop these skills.
