The Medical Laboratory Science curriculum teaches across 11 disciplines related to human medical diagnostic laboratory testing. The duties of the Senior Professional Practice Fellows are carried out under the supervision of the Director and Programme Module Convenor(s) who are responsible for accreditation of the programme.
The role/Te mahi
We are currently recruiting for Senior Professional Practice Fellows with experience in Medical Laboratory Science. In this role, you will provide leadership in teaching into the following areas:
Haematology
Morphology
Histotechnology
Molecular diagnostics
Grossing
Cytogenetics
Precision Medicine
These Dunedin based roles will include preparation and modification of teaching material, providing guidance to non-expert tutors, and delivery of the material. Most of the teaching is delivered in a small group format, but it may also include some lecture delivery and contributions to some laboratory sessions.
Key tasks include:
Obtaining sufficient knowledge of the background academic content related to haematology and blood cell morphology.
Sufficient experience in haematology and blood cell morphology in a medical diagnostic laboratory.
Preparing for tutorials by reviewing programme and tutorial content in advance of each session.
Being present and punctual at all scheduled tutorials.
Leading tutorial sessions in a positive and productive manner to maximise learning.
Completing student attendance, attitude and behaviour registers.
Participating in self-directed feedback and appropriate peer review.
These roles do not include a requirement to be involved in research, but research collaboration with other members of the Faculty would be supported.
Skills and experience/Ka pukeka me ka wheako
The successful candidates will have:
BMLSc or equivalent qualification.
Work experience, current or previous, as a registered Medical Laboratory Scientist.
Registration with the Medical Sciences Council New Zealand preferred.
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and independently.
Evidence of an ability to work well with students and staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds and at all levels of the institution.
Be committed to upholding values, tikanga, kawa and traditions as guided by Ngai Tahu, who are mana whenua in the region.

There are five permanent, part-time positions available with variable FTEs (0.1 to 0.5) available from December 2024 located in Dunedin.
The salary range for a Senior Professional Practice Fellow is $98,640 to $107,300 per annum (on pro-rata basis). The successful candidate will be appointed to an appropriate level based on qualifications, skills and experience.
