Hilton Haulage Transport Limited is a well-established and recognisable brand throughout New Zealand providing a range of transport and logistics services with a focus on service excellence.
We have a fantastic opportunity available for an experienced HR practitioner to join our People, Safety and Quality team in this senior role. Based at our Braeburn Drive office in Hornby, this position reports to an HR Manager based in the same location and will be supported by a dedicated team of HR professionals.
The successful Senior HR Advisor will partner with the business and provide a realm of support to senior and middle Managers in all sites from Dunsandel North. This includes coverage of bulk transport, general transport and storage, container transport, dairy storage and some milk collection sites. This role will involve planned travel to locations outside of Christchurch from time to time.
This is an ideal role for an individual who gets great satisfaction from helping our leaders grow and develop as this ultimately ensures employees have a positive employment experience during their time at Hilton Haulage. The position can be reactive at times, but there is a lot of opportunity to plan ahead to ensureManagers receive the support they require.
A typical week in this role will include tasks such as:
Recruitment –interviewing candidates, supporting Managers with recruitment decisions and assisting with pre-employment processes during periods of peak recruitment
Bulk recruitment – lead role in the management of large-scale recruitment assessment centres
Inductions – taking new employees through a comprehensive onboarding process, setting expectations, and ensuring all activities are completed in a timely manner
Employment Relations – providing careful guidance to Managers on performance management issues and facilitating investigation processes and subsequent disciplinary outcomes
Training – full responsibility for the re-induction of employees and ensuring all refresher and new training activities are planned and completed
Health & Safety – full ownership of injury management cases
Company policy – review internal policies, facilitate consultation processes and assist in the creation of new policies as required
Internal processes – full responsibility for the review, and update of all internal process documentation (eg: recruitment activity guides, employment paperwork)
Reporting – prepare a range of reports, for the Board, Leadership team and internal Divisional Managers and any other ad-hoc reporting as required
Immigration – ensuring staff adhere to visa conditions and maintain relationship with external agencies such as Immigration Advisors and Immigration NZ
Drug and alcohol testing – play a key role in all pre-employment, random and reasonable cause testing processes and ensure accurate execution of the D&A policy
Our ideal candidate will be an established HR professional, who can offer high level support in a large multi-site environment. While an understanding of the transport, logistics or supply chain industries would be an advantage, this is not essential.
This busy position requires a professional with strong influencing skills and a sense of humour. Having the ability to move at pace is really important, as is the requirement to competently prioritise an ever-changing workload. Adaptability, flexibility and resilience are key to making this role work. Advanced MS Office skills are required, along with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
While this is a Monday to Friday position with standard hours of 8am-5pm, there is the requirement to be flexible with start and finish times in order to meet the needs of the business.
