Senior Building Surveyor | Central Auckland | Expression of InterestAuckland Council's Building Consent department has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Building Surveyor within the Project Assessment team. In this senior role, you will be instrumental in guiding and mentoring your team while ensuring the efficient processing of building consents for both residential and commercial applications. You'll play a vital part in shaping the quality of the built environment in Auckland, contributing to solutions for the city's building shortage, all while fostering professional development within your team.Day-to-day you could expect to work on:Reviewing building consent plans and making informed compliance decisionsMentoring and coaching processing officers on technical mattersUndertake independent auditing of consents to assess compliance with policy and legislative requirementsDeveloping and implementing training initiatives to enhance team skillsCollaborating with team leaders and managers to identify and address non-conformance issues.This role requires experience in similar positions, with a sound understanding of the building consent process and legislative requirements. You should possess excellent leadership skills and a strong ability to mentor staff, guiding them in their professional development. Your attention to detail and results-focused approach will help ensure that all consent applications are processed efficiently and effectively.We will be looking for specific experience with:Extensive experience in the building industry, preferably in a BCA environment.Regulation 18 compliant qualifications and technical competency (Comm1 or above).Comprehensive knowledge of all building-related fields, including technical knowledge of design/construction principles and practices.Familiarity with the Building Act 2004, Local Government Act 2002, and Resource Management Act 1991.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Excellent planning and prioritisation abilities.High numeracy and strong process orientation.Auckland Council is one of the largest local authorities in the South Pacific providing essential services and facilities to more than 1.6 million people.
