This isn't just a job; it's an opportunity to be part of a movement redefining the future of building management.This RoleThis full-time Senior Backend Software Engineer role focuses on designing, building, and scaling the Tether product's backend systems and infrastructure. You'll work closely with our Head of Engineering and engineering team to drive the technical architecture and development lifecycle, ensuring our systems are robust, efficient, and future-proofed.What you will doYour primary responsibilities will include:Backend Development: Architect and maintain high-performance backend systems, APIs, and services using TypeScript and Node.js.Cloud Infrastructure: Design, deploy, and manage scalable and reliable AWS infrastructure, focusing on cost-effectiveness, performance, and security.DevOps and CI/CD: Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines, streamline release cycles, and ensure smooth deployments to support rapid growth.Database Management: Oversee database design, optimization, and maintenance (SQL and NoSQL) to handle large-scale, real-time data streams.Architecture & Scalability: Drive architectural decisions that support scalability and reliability, including microservices, containerization, and infrastructure as code (IaC).Monitoring & Incident Response: Set up monitoring and alerting systems, respond to live operational events, and proactively address anticipated issues.Mentorship & Leadership: Guide and mentor junior team members, fostering best practices in backend development, DevOps, and architecture.Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with stakeholders across Product, Design, and Business teams to ensure alignment and deliver high-quality, backend-focused solutions.Minimum Qualifications• Backend Expertise: At least 5 years of backend engineering experience, particularly in TypeScript, Node.js, and API development.• AWS & DevOps Skills: Proficient in AWS services (e.g., Lambda, RDS, ECS) and DevOps tools (e.g., Docker, Terraform) with a solid understanding of infrastructure and automation.• Scalable Architecture: Proven experience in designing scalable, distributed systems, and familiarity with microservices and serverless architectures.• Database Management: Expertise in SQL and NoSQL databases, with experience in optimizing for performance and scalability.• CI/CD & Automation: Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and automating infrastructure and deployment processes.• Agile Methodologies: Experience working within Agile frameworks to deliver backend-focused projects efficiently.• Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.• Problem-Solving: Proactive problem solver with experience managing operational incidents and planning for system resilience.BenefitsFlexible working hours and hybrid working options (office & WFH)New office location with great culture and amenities including ergonomic desks, quiet spaces and collaboration zonesWorking in a globally scaling technology company expanding into multiple international markets over the next 12 monthsWorking in and on the latest technology (hardware + software) to solve complex global problemsYour application will include the following questions:How many years' experience do you have as a Backend Engineer?Which of the following statements best describes your right to work in New Zealand?How many years' experience do you have as a software engineer?How many years' experience do you have in a DevOps role?How many years' experience do you have in a software development role?
