Job Title: Senior Adviser Health Safety and Wellbeing Role Type: Permanent full-time Location: Wellington Salary Band D: $98,955 to $132,427 depending on skills and experience Korero mo te turanga - About the Role Join our Strategy, Enablement, and Maori Partnership directorate which is part of our wider Te Uru Rakau – New Zealand Forest Service business unit based in Wellington. As the Senior Adviser Health, Safety and Wellbeing, you will have a unique opportunity to take the lead on initiatives and programmes of work to ensure our workplace remains a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for everyone in Te Uru Rakau - New Zealand Forest Service. By taking a strong focus on good safety practices and making them great, you will play a key role to ensure safety is the lens we use in our daily lives. In your role you will partner with staff and other Health, Safety and Wellbeing practitioners within MPI to understand common issues and identify barriers that might impact on our ability to improve our safety practices and embed a culture of safety. This partnering will identify opportunities to share insights and solve problems to implement change and improve performance. Your Responsibilities: Provide expertise to assist Te Uru Rakau managers with the delivery of health and safety systems, policies, and procedures. Provide technical advice and governance expertise in health safety and wellbeing processes and monitor compliance with MPI policy and New Zealand legislation, including ensuring that risks are identified, controlled, and mitigated. Support, develop and drive the delivery of MPI's health, safety, and wellbeing programme. Provide input on the establishment of new systems, policies, and procedures and align with MPI's programmes. Analyse health, safety, and wellbeing data, identify trends, monitor, and report on risk areas and produce quality performance data. Mou - About You We're looking for a seasoned Health, Safety and Wellbeing professional with 3-5 years practitioner experience, who is collaborative by nature, comfortable with systems and processes, and is a great communicator. You build positive, productive relationships to share expertise, deliver initiatives, improve performance, bring about change and drive for results through leadership influence. To be successful in this role, you will have: Practical working knowledge of New Zealand Health Safety & Wellbeing legislation and of good practice in health, safety, and wellbeing. Experience in critical risk management, understanding of management of contracts with overlapping duties and relationships with external providers and suppliers. Experience in risk management techniques relevant to health & safety and application in practical situations. Incident management and investigation. Experience in developing and implementing safety and wellbeing processes, systems, and solutions within large and complex organisations. Experience in managing relationships and consultation with an assortment of external stakeholders. Your ability to start as soon as possible would be an advantage. This role is part of the Strategy, Enablement, and Maori Partnership directorate within Te Uru Rakau – New Zealand Forest Service. The directorate serves as a critical enabling function, acting as a bridge between central functions and the Branch Leadership Team. We empower leadership to drive key outcomes that support the sustainable growth and development of the forestry sector. The Senior Adviser Health, Safety and Wellbeing role reports to the Manager Business Support within the directorate. The Business Support team is responsible for providing three core enabling functions to Te Uru Rakau: Office of the Deputy Director-General; Health, Safety & Wellbeing; and Branch Administrative Support. While the role is a sole adviser, there is enduring support from our MPI Central HSW team and other advisers across MPI. You will work in partnership with the Manager Business Support in supporting the branch leadership team in their governance of health, safety, and wellbeing in Te Uru Rakau.
