Reporting to the Finance Manager My client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Accountant to join their Finance team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong accounting background to contribute to the financial management and control of the company's operations. You will play a key role in supporting efficient and effective financial processes, ensuring compliance with best practices, and contributing to the continued success of the organization.
Key Responsibilities: Revenue Management: Model, review, and manage Council's revenue streams; provide analysis and variance reports.
Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare accurate monthly reports and financial analyses, including the management of reserves, loans, and fixed assets.
Reconciliations & Month-End Processes: Conduct ledger reconciliations and investigate variances to ensure accurate financial reporting.
Fixed Asset Management: Review and report on fixed asset capitalisation, depreciation, and disposal.
Process Improvement: Identify and develop more efficient accounting methods to improve Council performance and processes.
Projects: Actively participate in special projects, including process improvements, as required.
Skills & Experience: A Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Accounting, and full membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand (or equivalent) for at least 2 years.
A minimum of 5 years in finance roles, with strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to enhance efficiency in a complex environment. Experience in local government is desirable but not essential.
Excellent written and oral communication, advanced Excel, Word, and Database skills. Project management experience and strong organizational capabilities are a must.
