Waitemata District Health Board serves the communities of North and West Auckland and the Rodney District, a population of over 600,000 people. Waiatarau is a mental health inpatient unit located on the grounds of Waitakere Hospital. The unit as a whole comprises of 8 intensive care beds and 24 open ward beds.
Mental Health inpatient units are essentially national resources, but all efforts are made to ensure clients from the West Auckland area that need our services are accommodated at Waiatarau.
We are looking for a Registered Nurses with acute mental health inpatient unit experience.
You will require a high level of clinical skill, demonstrate a proactive approach toward seclusion elimination and restraint reduction, enjoy being actively involved in service improvement and have a sense of humour. You will be part of a great team of RN's who work closely with other members of the MDT and with our community teams to provide care to service users during the most acute phase of their episode of care.
Effective & therapeutic communication skills are essential and an understanding of sensory modulation would be an advantage. Registration with New Zealand Nursing Council as an RN (comp) with PG cert in Mental Health and/or experience in Mental Health specialty, or RPN, and a current Practicing Certificate are essential.
