Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
We're looking for Registered Midwives to join our team at one of the largest tertiary hospitals in the southern hemisphere. Waikato Hospital serves women requiring complex care from Hamilton city, the Waikato region, and from hospitals located in the wider Te Manawa Taki region.
As part of the team you'll be able to develop your core midwifery skills in pregnancy assessment, normal labour, birthing and postnatal care as well as developing advanced midwifery skills for wahine with complex pregnancy journeys. We have opportunities across birthing, acute assessment, antenatal, induction of labour and postnatal - discuss your area of expertise with the hiring manager and become part of our team today!
You'll be able to develop and extend your expertise in:
Midwifery-led Triage
Tertiary acute assessment skills
High level decision making
Induction of labour
Caesarean Section theatre
Perineal suturing
Neonatal Resuscitation and Life Support
High Dependency Obstetric Care
BFHI Breastfeeding support in both clinical skills and education
Long Acting Reversible Contraception skills – prescribing, skills training and support
Perinatal bereavement care

Skills and experience you'll need to be considered for the role:
Must have New Zealand registration as a midwife, and a current practising certificate with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand (or in the process of obtaining your registration/APC).
Excellent communication skills and the ability to easily build rapport with people.
Passionate about midwifery and have a real desire to provide the best care possible.
Have an understanding of Cultural Safety.

The Women's Health team at Waikato Hospital serves a diverse population of urban and rural women from Hamilton city and the Waikato region with over five thousand births per annum. The families of our region have a range of superb primary birthing units to choose from and when complexity arises, they are also able to access care from the team at Waikato Hospital.
We pride ourselves on having a fabulous midwifery team, and are passionate about supporting our newly graduated midwives. We offer a comprehensive first year of practice programme and competitive New Graduate Allowance. We are committed to building close relationships with our primary care midwives from the community (LMC midwives) and strive to engage their valuable insight as part of our quality improvement initiatives.
