Rates And Debt Management Officer

Are you interested in data administration? Are you passionate about guiding your community? A longstanding member of our finance team is heading off into retirement and we are looking for someone who is keen on taking up the opportunity to leap right in. In this role, you will coordinate the collection of rates, maintain the valuation of rates and manage rates records to ensure efficient collection of Council's rate revenue.
Responsibilities: As the Rates and Debt Management Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing the process for rate data keeping and debt recovery. It pays to have great customer service skills in this role as it will be your responsibility to help customers with enquiries.
You will be responsible for: Maintaining the Council's property databaseResponding to rates, property and water rate enquiriesLiaising with internal staff, debt recovery agencies and regional councilUndertaking and coordinating debt recovery proceduresMaori land rating and collectionArranging payment plansGenerating reportsIdeally you will have: A sound understanding of computer-based accounting applications and financial management systems.High level of computer literacy using Microsoft OfficeAdvanced appreciation of debt management and recoveryAdvanced understanding of relevant legislation, including financial provisions of the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002 and relevant provisions of the Te Ture Whenua Maori/Maori Land Act 1993 and its AmendmentsKnowledge of the legal process involved in debt recovery.Applications close Tuesday, 3 December 2024 at 4pm.
