He angitutanga | About the role The role will work in central Westland across the geographical areas administered by the Hokitika and Greymouth District offices.
This role is a mix of office and fieldwork.
Your work will involve working alongside permissions holders on public conservation land to find a balance that enables activities whilst protecting conservation values.
The activities most dealt with are Access Arrangements for alluvial gold and coal mining and Concessions for grazing, gravel take and to a lesser degree easements, hydro generation, beehives and things such as recreation events and drone use.
Your work will include engaging with iwi/hapu/whanau, and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders such as landowners, businesses and councils.
The position is varied, challenging, and rewarding.
It will be focussed on: contributing to the processing of applications to undertake activities on Public Conservation Land monitoring of permissions granted for activities on Public Conservation Land monitoring for and responding to unauthorised activities on Public Conservation Land under the RMA, assessment of effects and reporting to contribute where the Department is deemed an affected party support of other District priorities and team members from time to time.

If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you: excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to foster effective relationships ability to write clearly and concisely using plain English, you will be able to provide context, critical analysis, and logical recommendations for decision makers the ability to effectively and positively engage with people involved with land use that often does / or is perceived to conflict with conservation values previous experience working in a compliance and regulatory environment a 'can do' attitude and proven excellent organisational skills, including the ability to balance competing demands, meet deadlines and have a problem-solving approach experience with Microsoft Office valid full driver's licence medium level of fitness Desirable experience in working with and partnering with statutory authorities, community groups, iwi or business groups a good knowledge and or strong interest in the NZ environment strong data management and technology skills including use of GPS, digital photography, drones & GIS experience in primary industries, particularly farming and mining knowledge of the Western South Island 4×4 driving qualifications and experience Even if you don't tick all the boxes but believe your skills and experience closely align, then we still encourage you to submit an application.
Mo te tima | About the team This Ranger Community position is part of two small, energetic and hardworking community teams.
These teams are embedded within District Offices that include teams that cover the departments other functions.
The combined Greymouth and Hokitika Districts extends from the Grey Valley and part of the Punakaiki coast in the north, south to the Waitaha River and inland to the main divide, taking in parts of Arthurs Pass and Paparoa National Parks and the extensive wildernesses of many large river valleys.

The salary range for this position is $60,314 to $75,603 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
