Details of the offer

Ko wai matou | About us

Well, it's not actually about us at all. It's about the people and communities we serve. Ngati Toa is a vibrant and influential iwi, firmly grounded in our cultural identity. And we're paddling our own waka forward in leading significant change in enhancing the mana, wellbeing and prosperity of Ngati Toa and the communities in which we thrive.

Ko te tima | About the team

You will join a team that stands at the forefront of social change, dedicated to supporting whaiora and their whanau to improve their life outcomes. Our mission is deeply rooted in compassion and the belief in second chances, with a commitment to support whaiora experiencing mental health distress. As a team, we unite in our effort to provide the Whaiora we serve with the essential tools for life—education, employment, emotional well-being, and connections within the community.

Ko te turanga mahi | About the role

Our whakapapa

The Ora Toa Tu Te Wehi Programme (Mental Health Programme) was developed by Janette Katene and team in early 2000 when the Mental Health services were devolved to local communities. More importantly, this service was to be Kaupapa Maori ensuring that the Maori population of Porirua and Greater Wellington had access to a Maori specific service.

Our Goals:

This programme is designed to support those suffering from primary mental health issues a way forward in their mental health journey. Learning the significance of tikanga, kawa, and how to live within these guidelines using these as a way of coping in an ever-changing world. Ultimately it is about being the best that we can be within the environment we currently live in.

Programme Overview

The Psychologist is responsible for:

Providing services relating to Mental Health and wellbeing ensuring positive outcomes are achieved.

Using the skills of listening, observing, clarifying and offering options to enable client (whaiora) and/or whanau to maintain focus, explore options and consequences of decisions and make plans.

Ensuring health and safety is at the forefront of thinking and within all relevant policy, laws and regulations.

Ko nga wheako ou | About you

After hearing about us and about the role, you'll know whether you're the right person and whether now is the right time for you. Your high-level experience and professional expertise in Psychology is a given, and you will be excited to engage and learn alongside Ngati Toa. Of course, you'll be well practiced with/in:

The ability to actively engage with all people to sustain productive relationships.

The ability to work within a Kaupapa Maori environment.

The ability to actively work collaboratively across all areas of Te Runanga o Toa Rangatira.

But the thing that will really stand out is your love for the work and the people. The Runanga is a diverse and inclusive organisation positioned to understand and serve our communities. So, you'll be ready to give your best in the service of others, in areas that matter.

And in return for your hard work, we can offer you:

Work/Life Balance

Modern environment with a friendly team

Kaimahi centred discounts across banking and wellbeing activities

Commitment to professional development

The opportunity to serve our iwi and community aspirations – to be a part of a bigger purpose.
