What's the job? Are you passionate about Design and Creative Media? We have an exciting opportunity for a Programme Coordinator/Senior Lecturer to join our team. This role combines programme coordination and academic management, with a focus on supporting Maori and Pacific communities. As Programme Coordinator, you will oversee course planning, curriculum quality, and student success for Foundation courses in Art and Design, and Digital Media and Design. As a Senior Lecturer, you will prepare, deliver, and assess subjects, support students, and engage in professional development and research. Additionally, you will lead as Chair of the Maori and Pacific Steering Committee, promoting cultural inclusivity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
Day-to-day accountabilities: The Programme Coordinator/Senior Lecturer role involves:
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Foundation Department.
Supporting the academic team, deliver lectures, and develop teaching materials.
Serve as a resource and mentor for junior academic staff, providing guidance on teaching practices and curriculum.
Identify and support at-risk students by making appropriate referrals to support staff and resources.
Implement culturally responsive teaching practices that acknowledge and celebrate Maori and Pacific identities, values, and learning styles.
Foster connections with relevant industry contacts to maintain subject relevance and provide students with exposure to industry practices.
Engage in ongoing development of cultural competency in tikanga Maori, Te Reo Maori, and Pacific cultures.
Actively uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi by fostering a learning environment based on Partnership, Protection and Participation.
Contribute to research and scholarly work within the discipline, aligning with the organisation's strategic goals.
About you Essential: A minimum of a master's qualification in design, creative media or related discipline.
At least five years of experience in higher education in the field of design, creative media or related discipline.
Proven experience in applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in a professional or educational setting.
Experience working with Maori and Pacific communities and understanding of their unique educational and cultural needs.
A high service ethos towards students to support their learning.
Experience with Canvas (LMS), in particular Editor and HTML/CSS.
Maori and/or Pasifika whakapapa and/or a lived Maori or Pacific experience.
Desirable: Proficiency of Te Reo Maori or a Pasifika language is advantageous.
Where applicable, a demonstrated track record of high-quality research outcomes through traditional publications, conferences and/or non-traditional research outcomes.
Where applicable, evidence of applying for research grants.
Where applicable, evidence of research that is applicable to industry or in collaboration with industry partners.
