Community Development (Community Services & Development) Permanent part-time or full-time (0.4 FTE - 1 FTE) roles at prisons within the Canterbury region Can you help us show the love of God inside the prison walls?
Are you willing to support all prisoners with a non-judgmental heart?
Will you support Ara Poutama Aotearoa's goal of keeping communities safe and changing lives?
Can you use your ministry skills to coordinate religious services and provide pastoral support?
We are looking for individuals to journey with prisoners as they encounter the challenges of prison life and separation from loved ones and whanau.
We have the following vacancies available: Christchurch Men's Prison - 4 days per week (0.8FTE) Christchurch Women's Prison - 2 days per week (0.4FTE) Rolleston Prison - 2 days per week (0.4FTE) We are happy to consider expressions of interest for whatever portion of the vacancies best suit your circumstances.
For example, you may wish to put in an application to work 2 days per week at Rolleston Prison.
Alternatively, if you are interested in a full-time position, you may wish to apply for a position made up of 3 days per week at Christchurch Men's Prison and 2 days per week at Christchurch Women's Prison.
The minimum appointment would be for two days per week.
Preferred allocation of hours will be discussed with candidates as part of the recruitment process.
Role Priorities To work as a prison chaplain, we need someone who has a deep faith, pastoral experience, and who has some knowledge of te reo and Tikanga.
You must be confident in providing group and individual services, pastoral support, as well as leading and coordinating volunteers.
Experience working with mental health issues would be advantageous.
Candidates interested in working at Christchurch Women's prison will be both comfortable and effective working in a woman's prison and will be able to gently build trust and rapport in that context.
Significant ministry and pastoral counselling experience are required for the roles, as is an appropriate level of mental and physical agility.
It is important that you can work constructively as part of the chaplaincy and site management team and that you can be adaptable and flexible in your role.
You will preferably either have a formal theological qualification or have made significant progress towards one.
Good IT aptitude is essential, with the ability to use Office 365 (experience using SharePoint will be advantageous).
