Operations Planning Engineer - Wellington Transpower owns and operates New Zealand's National Grid—the high-voltage transmission network that connects generation sites to towns and cities across the country. As the System Operator, we play a key role in running the wholesale electricity market and managing the power system in real-time. At the heart of New Zealand's power system, we ensure electricity flows seamlessly through Transpower's high-voltage network to local lines companies and large industrial customers. About the team The Network Modelling and Commissioning Team, within System Operations, provides critical engineering expertise to safely and securely integrate transmission assets into the power system. We also coordinate and evaluate updates to transmission and generator asset capabilities, adapting as the network evolves. Whether dealing with near real-time operations or shaping long-term grid developments, this team thrives on tackling challenges across multiple timeframes. About the opportunity Based in Wellington, you'll take a leading role in ensuring the safe commissioning of transmission assets. You'll work closely with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to resolve complex commissioning challenges, conduct engineering assessments, and update network models to reflect changes while supporting renewable energy projects. Will you help lead the way? About you We're seeking an innovative problem-solver who collaborates seamlessly with various teams. You will also bring the following: Knowledge of power system operations Strong analytical skills for solving complex problems The ability to communicate technical advice clearly to diverse audiences Experience with power system modelling and analysis software Practical experience in power system equipment commissioning or a related field Additional knowledge that would be an advantage: Experience in the New Zealand electricity industry Understanding of the Electricity Industry Participation Code (EIPC) Knowledge of protection systems Python scripting skills Join us at Transpower Aotearoa is powered by the people who work here.
