Open and Robotic Uro-oncology Fellow - Urology (Fixed term) - 2025/202612-month Urology Fellowship opportunity available at Auckland City Hospital and North Shore HospitalCommencing August 2025Te whiwhinga mahi| The OpportunityThe Urology department at the Te Toka Tumai Auckland invites applications for a 12 month Fellowship position under the supervision of Dr Simon van Rij, Service Clinical Director of Urology. This is a split role, with 6 months occurring at Auckland City Hospital working on open uro-oncological procedures and 6 months at North Shore Hospital covering robotics.Auckland City Hospital is a large comprehensive public hospital in the centre of Auckland providing a wide range of tertiary services. The hospital is under the auspices of Te Toka Tumai Auckland which employs over 13,000 healthcare workers, and is the largest clinical training institution in New Zealand.The Urology Department at Auckland City Hospital provides a secondary service for the population of Auckland City and Counties Manukau as well as tertiary service for the greater Auckland region, and a quaternary service for New Zealand. The Department covers major open uro-oncology, endourology, and reconstructive urology. The service carries out a very high volume of acute and elective stone work (including PCNLs) - the largest in Australasia. Our service also provides complex reconstructive and functional urology for our patients.This position will encompass a mixture of clinical work, teaching, and research and will provide a significant learning opportunity for a surgical graduate to further their clinical skills in Urology. Clinical activities include:Weekly operating lists across both Auckland City Hospital and Greenlane Surgical UnitDaily ward roundsWeekly MDM meetingWeekly general outpatient clinic including procedural clinicsOvernight on-call (1st on, off-site)Our surgical procedures include:Open complex uro-oncologyRobot uro-oncology (prostate and kidney)All general endo-urologyLaparoscopyCollaboration with the Renal Transplant SurgeryHigh volume acute operative urology as the acute centre for the greater Auckland areaThe Te Toka Tumai Auckland Urology Department is a large high-volume unit with a broad skill mix amongst our Urologists. The successful candidate will be able to enjoy a challenging and fulfilling year in our unit and significantly advance their skillset in areas of their choice.It is essential that applicants have surgical training equivalent to FRACS level.You must have an excellent work record, an ability to integrate as part of a team, and a desire for public service. A commitment to research, audit and quality assurance is also required.You will be either registered or be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and demonstrate successful experience/training in research.
