Museum Collections Assistant

Details of the offer

Full Time Some places just offer more of what really counts, and the South Taranaki District is a perfect example. Our district has some of the most spectacular scenery in the world - wedged between Mt Taranaki's majestic cone and the rugged coastline of the Tasman Sea - the region boasts outdoor pursuits to satisfy even the most active individual and is alive with opportunities.

The South Taranaki District Council is seeking to employ an individual with an interest in Museums and Collections to join its team.
The appointee will be responsible for cataloguing, organising and managing the archives held at Aotea Utanganui, Museum of South Taranaki. The Museum uses Past Perfect; the successful applicant will need experience using this tool for collection management or be prepared to learn. You will supervise visitors to the archives, undertake research, respond to enquiries from the public and promote the archives to the South Taranaki community.

We are seeking a proactive and self-motivated individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to join our Museum Team. This position would suit a candidate with a relevant university degree in a relevant subject ie museum studies, history or a National Certificate in Museum Practice. The successful applicant will have a sound working knowledge, understanding, awareness and sensitivity of collection management and experience of museum sector databases as well as great administrative skills. As a member of the Museum team, you will attend to front of house duties and assist with exhibitions and educational programmes.
If you have at least two years' experience in a role of a similar nature and have a passion to raise awareness of our district's rich heritage, we want to hear from you.
We employ people with a 'Can Do' attitude who want to work for a united organisation with a strong sense of family that is proud to serve its communities.
With the current border and quarantine restrictions in place, applicants for this position must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand therefore must have NZ residency or hold a valid NZ work visa, therefore first priority will be given where the applicant is in New Zealand.
