Arowhenua Whanau Services – Temuka, South Island Clinical - Mental Health and Addictions (x1FTE) Te Tiriti o Waitangi is the founding document which defines the relationship between Maori and the Crown in Aotearoa New Zealand. It affirms both tangata whenua status of whanau, hapu, and iwi in Aotearoa New Zealand, and their rights to citizenship. Te Tiriti o Waitangi provides a basis through which Maori may critically analyze relationships, challenge the status quo, and affirm Maori rights.
At Arowhenua Whanau Services our purpose is to ensure that the needs of Maori living in the Takiwa of Te Runanga o Arowhenua are responded to in an appropriate way by bringing whanau, hapu, iwi, and Maori community development into a relationship with health, social services and education provision.
Arowhenua Whanau Services provides free, accessible primary health and social service support to tangata whaiora, whanau, and hapori across the Aoraki rohe. Our vision is to remove barriers where those with the least resources have as much as, or more, access to healthcare than those with the most.

Mo te turanga | About the role Clinical roles Registered professionals will be responsible for assessing and managing the needs of tangata whaiora and whanau. You will complete assessments and develop individual hauora plans to enable tangata whaiora and whanau to meet their goals. You will need to be an effective communicator and decision-maker who can think outside of the square and has strong clinical competencies and confidence in te ao Maori practices me ona tikanga.
This role of mental health and addictions nurse, who have worked in a kaupapa Maori and community environment. We want to hear from registered professionals who are dedicated to providing high-quality care and are responsive to tangata whaiora and whanau needs.
This may comprise of: Mental Health Assessments, Whanau wellbeing and plans Providing a broad range of clinical expertise to tangata whaiora, and whanau by ensuring they can access physical and mental health and addictions support. Identify opportunities for early intervention, helping reduce the prevalence of persistent disadvantage. Clinical expertise, professional manner Demonstrate strong communication skills, transferable skills and building positive relationships with best practice A can-do attitude, positive energy and enthusiasm Being open and responsive to a new way of helping whanau Being a good role model, walking the talk Commitment to health and well-being Great rapport skills with people from all walks of life Good personal and professional boundaries Essential to the role is: Registered Nurse with relevant qualifications A relevant qualification and a current NZ practicing certificate (clinical roles) A full NZ driver's license Due to the nature of our mahi and working closely with vulnerable whanau, police vetting and MSD checks are a condition of employment.
