Mo matou About us Ko nga tangata, te matua mahi - Putting people at the heart of all we do Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand, leads the day-to-day running of our health system across New Zealand, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and national levels.
It weaves the functions of the 20 former District Health Boards into its regional divisions and district offices, ensuring continuity of services in the health system.
The Team Medical Oncology is part of the Canterbury Regional Cancer & Haematology Service (CRCHS), one of two tertiary cancer centres in the South Island of New Zealand.
Medical Oncology is responsible for medical management of cancer patients and the delivery of pharmaceutical cancer treatment.
CRCHS provides medical oncology services to Canterbury, South Canterbury and West Coast Districts, supports the South Island Child Cancer Service and the South Island Regional Gynaecological Oncology Service.
Medical Oncology is a predominantly outpatient service, with both dedicated clinical space and a cancer day ward to deliver pharmaceutical cancer treatments, supported by an inpatient service in the newly built Waipapa Hospital.
Medical Oncology has close links with the University of Otago's Christchurch School of Medicine and Health Sciences, involving undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, as well as active participation in local, national, and international basic and clinical research.
Research is supported through an autonomously funded clinical research service within the Oncology Department with a robust portfolio of industry and academic trials.
Mo te tunga About the role The Medical Oncology service cares for approximately 18,000 patients per year and delivers an average of 150 cancer treatments weekly.
Close interaction with other cancer services across the district is facilitated through regular and collegial multi-disciplinary meetings.
We currently have a Parental Leave Cover, Fixed Term 0.8 FTE position available to start from February 2024.
To be considered for this position, you will need to hold RACP or an equivalent qualification that would enable registration as a specialist medical oncologist by the Medical Council of New Zealand.
It is a requirement of this role to contribute to the on-call roster.
