Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whanau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

A rare opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and competent Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our busy and varied Biochemistry Department in the Waikato Hospital Laboratory. We perform an extensive array of biochemistry and endocrine tests, including renal stone analysis, sweat testing and toxicology, and utilise a range of techniques including ELISA, LC-MS and spectroscopy. The successful applicant will be a highly motivated team player with excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail. In addition, you will possess effective time management skills and be able to work independently.

About the Service

The Biochemistry department is an integral part of the wider laboratory services at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Waikato, servicing inpatients, outpatients and community patients of the Manawa Taki region. The laboratory service is situated over five sites, our central laboratory at Waikato Hospital in Hamilton and our smaller laboratories in Tokoroa, Thames, Taumarunui and Te Kuiti hospitals.

About you

Skills and experience you will need to be considered for the role:

Registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Sciences Council.

A motivated team player with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Knowledge of laboratory operations, including biochemistry principles and techniques, quality assurance processes and hands-on experience

Experience working in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment will be an advantage

Availability to participate in a 24/7 rotating roster and an out-of-hours on call roster once fully trained

If you are an experienced scientist or a new graduate wanting to gain broad experience, and enjoy being part of a small team with a strong sense of community, this position would be ideal for you.
