Tenei turanga - About the Role: Mediators play a critical role under the Employment Relations Act – from assisting in the development of good employment relationships to facilitating and supporting employment bargaining and helping resolve employment relationship problems.
As a Mediator within the Employment Mediation Service, you'll help people in employment-related disputes to achieve resolution.
In rare circumstances, you may be called upon to make decisions that are final and binding.
With high demand mediation services, you will enjoy a dynamic and often fast-paced environment.
You'll use a range of approaches in your practice to meet our client's service needs.
This will include in-person, videoconference, shuttle, or telephone services.
You will be part of our fantastic, diverse, and dynamic team across Aotearoa - with Early Resolution Facilitators, Case Managers, and Mediators.
You will have an extensive peer group of like-minded professionals.

You will occasionally travel to other locations within your region to meet our client's needs.
Nga pukenga me nga wheako e hiahiatia ana - Skills and Experience Required: An understanding of the drivers of conflict, disputes, and relationship issues.
Previous experience as a mediator or similar is an advantage.
An understanding of workplace and employment relations.
Experience with collective and interest-based bargaining is an advantage.
Ability to work confidentially and professionally within emotionally charged environments.
Experience working with Maori, Pasifika, and other peoples and cultures is an advantage.
Knowledge of New Zealand law and employment law in particular.
Ability to earn the confidence and respect of employers, employees, unions, practitioners, and other stakeholders.
Ability to work effectively using a range of different mediation methods (in-person, videoconference, shuttle, or telephone as required).
Able to constructively contribute to the objectives of the Employment Relations Act.
Accreditation from a dispute resolution professional body (either AMINZ or Resolution Institute) or willingness to complete this qualification.
Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
Driver's licence and ability to travel when required.
