Whanganui District Council is about to embark on a new phase of waste management and minimisation and we are looking for a great leader to support this exciting development. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone who is innovative, dynamic and ready to hit the ground running to support Council to meet our commitments to our community in a positive and collaborative way.
About the Role Reporting to the GM Community Property and Places, this role is responsible for and actively manages the delivery of waste services for the Whanganui District. This includes solid waste, waste minimisation, kerbside services, closed landfill, waste levy funding, and operational projects. You will be joining us at the same time that our new kerbside recycling service starts, and that will be followed next year with the start of kerbside food scraps service.
This role will also develop and ensure that the Waste Management and Minimisation Plan (WMMP) delivers on intended outcomes, and follows requirements as set out in the Waste Management Act.
Based in the heart of Whanganui, this is an exciting opportunity to really make a difference in the community.
What you'll bring Extensive experience in the waste industry or related field. Demonstrated sound experience in strategic planning of waste management issues and policy development. Sound technical understanding, knowledge and application of all legislation that has relevance to waste management and minimisation.
