About the role An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and driven Legal & Compliance Counsel to support its diverse range of businesses, including Subaru of NZ, LDV NZ, KGM NZ, and Inchcape Automotive Retail (NZ). As Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for providing expert legal advice across key areas, ensuring compliance with New Zealand laws and regulations, and partnering with stakeholders to deliver on Inchcape's legal and business goals. Your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: Advise on competition and consumer law compliance, covering restrictive trade practices, resale price maintenance, and misleading conduct under NZ laws. Deliver and manage legal compliance initiatives for the business and Dealer Network, focusing on competition and consumer laws. Provide product liability advice, ensuring compliance with the Consumer Guarantees Act. Review and approve all automotive advertisements and manage product recalls in line with NZ regulations. Advise on dealer agreements, network development, and provide support on escalated customer complaints. Act as Privacy Officer, managing privacy-related complaints and ensuring compliance with privacy policies. Review, draft, and negotiate supplier agreements and other legal contracts, providing strategic advice to leadership. Deliver comprehensive compliance training, covering anti-bribery, anti-money laundering, and consumer guarantee obligations. Collaborate with Australian legal and compliance team to deliver the Inchcape Australasia legal agenda. Why join us? About you 5+ years of legal experience, ideally in the automotive or consumer goods industry. Experience with competition and consumer law, privacy law, and corporate compliance. Degree in Law from a New Zealand university. Admitted to practice as an in-house counsel in NZ, with a valid New Zealand Law Society Practicing Certificate. Strong knowledge of the NZ Fair Trading Act, Commerce Act, and Consumer Guarantees Act. Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. High level of attention to detail and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with legal documentation, data analysis, and standard software (Outlook, Excel, Word).
