Kauati works in the cultural heritage and environmental sectors.  We have worked on a wide range of projects, including freshwater, predator-free, cultural landscapes, and land redesignation.  Most of our work is in supporting Treaty partnerships and enabling partners by providing the support, pathways, and information needed.

Hakitekura was the first person to successfully swim across the ice-cold Whakatipu Waimaori (Lake Wakatipu). Learning from where others had failed, she took with her a kauati (firestick) to keep warm once back on land and signal her achievement.
Following her example of ingenuity, adaptability and perseverance, we work on the basis that every aspect of the policy and planning process is significant. Our natural environment, our culture – one cannot be considered apart from the other. By looking to the lessons of the past, we ensure that we do the best by each aspect and that our work stands the test of time.

Position PurposeWe are looking for emerging innovative thinkers who want to be part of upholding the mana and mauri of te taiao and supporting cultural practices at place.  
This is a policy and research role in a Queenstown-based consultancy.  You will be advising on biocultural and environmental management using Treaty based approaches.  A key part of this role is identifying impacts and opportunities. You will represent Kauati and our clients in project teams and must form sound working relationships. 
A connection with Murihiku and Te Waipounamu is an advantage.
