Independent Chair – Risk & Assurance Committee West Coast Regional Council – Greymouth, South Island
As the Independent Chairperson of the Risk & Assurance Committee, you will be at the forefront of guiding the Council's enterprise risk management and overseeing both internal and external audits. Your leadership will empower our committee to uphold robust governance practices and provide valuable insights to Council, ensuring that we meet the highest standards of compliance and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Lead the Committee in reviewing and reporting on Council's annual audit processes, internal audit plans, and risk management framework.
Oversee the Council's enterprise risk register, ensuring we proactively address potential risks and uphold legislative compliance.
Provide strategic guidance on health, safety, and well-being at a governance level.
Collaborate with external auditors and provide independent assurance on risk, control, and compliance frameworks.
Foster a culture of trust and transparency, embodying our Council values in every interaction.
What You Will Bring
Governance Leadership: Senior-level experience in risk management, audit, and assurance with a strategic focus, ideally in the public or local government sector.
Financial Acumen: A strong understanding of financial management practices to support effective decision-making.
Communication & Independence: The ability to communicate effectively, especially when managing differing viewpoints, and a track record of objective, independent leadership.
Cultural Insight: An appreciation of Te Ao Maori and experience partnering with mana whenua, essential to our Council's approach to risk and assurance.
