We have a newly created position within our Hydrology team as a Data Specialist. In this role, you will assist the Hydrology Manager in coordinating the Hydrology Team's primary hydrometric data management work streams, including data processing and archiving into the Hilltop time series database.
You will ensure compliance with relevant Quality Systems and National Environmental Monitoring Standards by developing and conducting periodic data audits to maintain high-quality data. Additionally, you will oversee the efficient response to internal and external data requests, ensuring data quality and clarity.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in hydrology, a strong understanding of hydrometric data management and quality assurance practices, excellent analytical and reporting skills, and the ability to coordinate workstreams effectively.
Do you have what it takes?
We are looking for someone who can bring the following to our diverse talent pool:
Tertiary qualification in a related discipline (e.g., science, hydrology, environmental monitoring etc.).
5+ years' experience in hydrological data collection, flow gauging and hydrological data processing and archiving to the National Environmental Standards.
Expert working knowledge of continuous hydrometric data, flow ratings, and time series software such as Hilltop.
Strong proficiency in the analysis of hydrological data for the description of trends and extremes.
Proficiency in communicating hydrological data, including report writing, and presenting to audiences.
Proficiency with Microsoft applications particularly Word, Excel & Outlook.
Experience in training and mentoring staff.
Experience in local government is preferable.
