Our Community Housing service is designed to provide safe, healthy, affordable, quality housing through the provision of emergency, transitional, and long-term supported housing. As a Housing Locator you are part of a comprehensive team, sourcing housing, providing resources for support in all aspects of tenants’ lives, through Social Workers, Community Development Workers and the other wrap-around services of VisionWest Community Trust. We are excited to be leading the way with the landmark Housing First initiative where we take long term chronically homeless directly into housing leading to over 80% staying housed.

What you’ll do:
Locate houses (rent or lease) that are suitable for Housing First clients and those transitioning from emergency housing
* Liaise with Supports and Tenancy teams for information and relationship pertaining to potential leased and leased properties
* Build relationships with landlords, property managers and investors to ensure sufficient suitable housing is obtained to meet housing requirements
* Provide a range of advice regarding tenancy rights & obligations in accordance with the Residential Tenancy Act as applies in New Zealand.
* Work within the aims and objectives of VisionWest Community Trust to provide faith based holistic and wrap around services.
What you’ll need:
* A heart for community.
* Experience in sales or property management experience.
* The ability to network well and build strong working relationships.
* A sound understanding of community service providers, not-for-profit organisations and / or community housing practices or working within a residential or not-for-profit setting.
* Working knowledge and practice of the Residential Tenancies Act, tenancy Inspections & Property Condition reports
* A sound understanding of the issues affecting people from a low socio-economic background and those who have high needs.
* Excellent interpersonal skills to deal sensitively with clients and work collaboratively with the Board, colleagues, government and other professionals.
* Excellent written communication skills, good organisational skills and a comprehensive knowledge of general office procedures.
* Experience of lone working in people’s homes with a strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
* Ability work independently and as part of a team.
* High level of initiative with the ability to make sound decisions on complex issues.
* Comprehensive computer skills including Microsoft office & the ability to use, update and maintain database programmes.
* A current clean driver’s license and willingness to travel.
