Hospitality Finance Manager
Performance Expectations
Leads the development and execution of our Financial Strategy including identifying key areas for business growth/improvement over a 5 year timeline
Analyses previous years data and macroeconomic trends to forecast financial targets for the coming year in the form of a detailed Annual Financial Plan
Supports our Team Leaders to manage & constantly improve revenue, Cost of Good (COG) & wage cost metrics in each of their relevant departments
Constantly analyses our business expenses and identifies areas for saving
Continually develops and updates our financial systems so that all areas of business performance are accurately measured on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Provides team training on these systems as required.
Ensures that all of our different financial systems talk to each other in an efficient and effective manner; streamlining our financial reporting processes & making it transparent to our team
Develops training modules to increase the financial literacy of our entire team & heroes our Open Book Management (OBM) philosophy
Works key restaurant shifts to understand the operation of the business
Measures of success
The business experiences at least 5% net profit growth year on year
The business improves its combined total COG and wage cost percentage by at least 1% year on year
The business reduces its average monthly operating expenses year on year; actioning expense savings measures worth at least $25,000 each year
Our Performance Incentive Program (PIP) targets stretch the team but are achievable; keeping them engaged (achieved 8 out of 12 months per year)
At any time, all team members can accurately see & understand how the business is performing financially
Consistently achieving our monthly Staff Cost targets & yearly overall target of 29.5% (before PIP paid out)
Consistently achieving our monthly COG target of 27.5%
Consistently achieving our Revenue targets each month
Weekly Habits
Liaises with Team Leaders & payroll to ensure staff hours & PIP are accurately entered each week
Supports the Bar Leader & Kitchen Leader to stocktake high value items as required; either daily or weekly
Ensures all invoices have been accurately entered into Loaded Reports and Xero
Meets with Team Leaders & GM to support them to manage COG & wage cost metrics in each of their relevant departments
Ensures that all existing OBM numbers are reported accurately and provides in-depth analysis of how Planned, Forecast and Actual numbers are tracking in relation to each other. Identifies new numbers that would be worthwhile measuring in our OBM meetings.
Sends a weekly Financial Health Check report to Business Leader & Operations Manager
Monthly Habits
Develops & updates pay bands for all roles within the business; reports on how pay increases will impact wage cost targets
Forecasts required staffing levels for FOH & Kitchen teams based on seasonal revenue targets & communicates this to the relevant departments in advance
Manages the businesses leave liability
Supports the Bar Leader & Kitchen Leader to complete monthly stocktakes on the 1st of every month
Captures all marketing spend & ensures it is allocated to the correct codes within Xero each month
Identifies areas for saving and supports SLT to tender and negotiate better supplier agreements
Presents a Monthly Profit and Loss Report with analysis to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT); no more than one week after the end of the previous month
Who you work with:
Business Leader: You will work closely with the Business Leader when forecasting targets for the Annual Financial Plan & when reporting on the medium/long term Financial Strategy for the business.
Operations Manager: Through analysis of our key financial metrics you will help the General Manager set monthly priorities for the SLT.
Team Leaders: You will be a source of expertise and advice for Team Leaders wanting to successfully manage COG, wage cost and expenses & drive revenue. You'll be able to provide them useful, detailed financial analysis so that they can then make day to day operational decisions and tweaks to improve our business. Team Members: You will clearly communicate how the business is performing financially so they feel a part of the business. Through Financial Training Modules you will improve their financial literacy and business acumen - helping them to "think like owners" within the business.

Required qualifications:
NZQF Diploma (ANZSCO Skill Level 2)
At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.
Please note: At least 1 year of hospitality specific Finance experience is required in addition to three years of general Finance experience
