Description: Join the Chilltech crew as our Health & Safety Coordinator! This full-time permanent role is based at our Head Office in Whangarei but will occasionally involve travel to our Mangawhai and Auckland offices. Enjoy flexible hours based on a 32-hour workweek, with an immediate start preferred. This is an autonomous position where you'll take ownership of our robust documentation and processes, reporting directly to the General Manager. For 27 years, we've provided top-quality heating, ventilation and air conditioning solutions to both residential and commercial clients. Known for our innovative, energy-efficient systems and exceptional service, we pride ourselves on our commitment to health and safety and our customer-first approach. We're on the lookout for a health and safety professional to maintain our H&S management system, work collaboratively and address any H&S challenges that arise. The Role: Key responsibilities will include, but aren't limited to: Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to enhance H&S knowledge across the company and promote a strong H&S culture for continuous improvement. Stay updated on current and changing legislation, regularly reviewing compliance for both internal and external stakeholders (e.g. WorkSafe and major contracts). Conduct internal audits/inspections and report on competency and legal compliance. Keep all training requirements up to date. Report all accidents and near misses, and conduct investigations as needed. Identify, address and investigate notifiable events and follow WorkSafe guidance on remedial actions to prevent recurrence and ensuring proper closeout. Coach and support the wider team on their H&S compliance journey, helping them understand and meet requirements. Review and analyse data from our internal H&S system (Safe365) and provide monthly feedback to management on key findings from data analysis. Conduct quarterly Safe365 risk index assessments to determine next steps for ongoing improvement of the H&S management system. Collaborate with SLT to set H&S objectives. Keep emergency plans up to date and run drills to ensure we're ready for any situation. Update the master hazard register and control sheets as necessary to keep it current. Complete prequalification for new job tenders on an ad-hoc basis. Assist project leaders with SSSPs and related documentation preparation for large projects. Lead the H&S Committee, including chairing quarterly meetings. Create and execute H&S plans, policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance. Provide monthly reports to the General Manager regarding our H&S performance, highlighting actions for continual improvement. Maintain our SiteWise prequalification gold status through annual compliance assessments. Required Skills & Experience: A formal qualification in health and safety or risk management (e.g. diploma, degree or NQF Level 4 certificate as a minimum). Previous experience in a health & safety role, preferably but not essential. Experience in conducting safety inspections and incident investigations. Comfortable in delivering health & safety training and induction programs for staff. Familiarity with online health and safety management systems. Knowledge of hazardous substances and risk management. Experience in developing and implementing emergency response plans and conducting drills. Solid understanding of the Health & Safety at Work Act (HSWA) 2015 and its practical implications for workplaces. Committed to ensuring compliance and willing to conduct regular inspections at various sites. Strong verbal and written communication abilities to convey H&S policies and procedures clearly to all levels of the organisation. Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with team members, management and external stakeholders. Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Competence in analysing data and incident reports to identify trends and areas for improvement. Ability to perform risk assessments and safety inspections/audits. Strong planning and time management abilities to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines. Attention to detail in monitoring documentation and records. Ideal Candidate: Strong interpersonal skills to engage with all levels of the organisation. Experience in change management is a plus. Willingness to travel occasionally. Familiarity with simPRO and Safe365 software is beneficial. Understanding of the hazards and risks associated with HVAC. Able to start as soon as possible.
