Health Promotion Officer Permanent, full time (1.0 FTE), 40 hours per week Exciting opportunity to work alongside our local community We are seeking a vibrant and highly motivated individual to join our team of Health Promotion Officers at Southern DHB. Our Health Promotion officers are responsible for managing relationships both internally and in the wider community, in order to improve population health and education of Public Health initiatives. Mo te turanga | About the role The primary purpose of the role is to carry out regulatory functions under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2018 and the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act 1990. Your tasks will include educational visits, controlled purchasing operations, processing alcohol licence applications and attending hearings. You will work closely with NZ Police, the territorial authorities as well as the licensed premises within the region. This role is 1.0 FTE which equates to 80 hours a fortnight. While this role is usually based during normal business hours, there will be instances where you will need to work outside of these, including evenings and weekends for monitoring purposes. Health Promotion Officers work to improve, promote, and protect the health of our population, in the communities we serve, with a focus on equity and Hauora Maori. This role will work collaboratively with all key stakeholders in a way that is consistent with the Organisation's vision and values. This way of working will ultimately benefit all our communities and contribute to improving population health outcomes. You will work with Medical Officers of Health, Health Promotion Officers and Health Protection Officers in order to achieve the National Public Health System vision. We are looking for someone who exerts a positive energy and approach to health. You will not be the type to shy away from "tricky" topics, being comfortable and open in your interactions with others will be second nature to you. A good knowledge of and strong links to the Southland communities will be an advantage. It is important that you work as a valued team member and are able to travel throughout Southland and hold a full clean driver's license. Mou ake | About you An excellent communicator, you will be adept and confident at building relationships with a range of stakeholders. To be successful in this role you will need: Current full, clean NZ driver's license. A background in Public Health or a relevant qualification Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to providing equitable outcomes to people of all ethnicities and backgrounds. Outstanding presentation skills, with demonstrated experience in providing workshops to a diverse range of people. Ability to cope with work pressures and stress, whist proactively managing conflicting demands on time.
