About the role
It takes a special person to care for sick babies and their families/whanau during testing times. If you like the idea of providing inspiration and improving the health and welfare of babies this may be the role for you. Our NICU team cares for over 350 babies and families each year from across the Southern District.
As a Health Care Assistant, you will be involved in:
Supporting our nurses and other members of the health care team
Patient supervision and/or movement
Patient cares, as required
Stock reconciliation
Ward maintenance
Patient watch, with one on one care as required
Shifts may include morning, afternoons, evenings, nights and weekends.
About you
We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants with previous health care experience, and from those who are dynamic, friendly and can demonstrate a high level of initiative.
You will be committed to high standards of practice, be well organised and have excellent communication skills.
It is important that candidates are motivated, flexible, have a level of maturity about them and of course plenty of enthusiasm.
Experience working with people in a caring capacity is also essential, whether that experience is gained from within a professional environment, or from caring for children or family members.
Competency with te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Matauranga Maori and Kaupapa Maori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.

Salary Range
This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the NZNO CEA and the salary will be in accordance with the Health Care Assistant Pay Scale, between $60,100 and $70,358 p.a pro rata dependant on relevant experience.
