About the Role
We are looking for a colleague and team-player who is keen to enhance our already comprehensive general surgical service to cover a 6 month period of leave. You'll share responsibility for the general surgical specialist assessment and care of patients at Gisborne Hospital with four other general surgeons. You will be required to manage a wide range of acute general surgical conditions including urology and vascular pathology.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Gisborne Hospital is the base hospital for the wide geographical area, Tairawhiti, extending up the East Cape of New Zealand, creating enormous scope and variety in the work available to an enthusiastic and skilled general surgeon. Providing healthcare to a population of 50,000, Tairawhiti is well supported locally by comprehensive surgical services and has a full range of diagnostic facilities on site including a new MRI scanner and CT scanner. We have strong ties with our tertiary referral centre in Waikato.

Applicants must either be vocationally registered or be eligible for vocational or temporary registration as provided by the Medical Council of New Zealand. Preference will be given to applicants who hold a current vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).
Competency with te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth. Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Matauranga Maori and Kaupapa Maori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
