As a Field Operator in our team, you will play a vital role in the control and survey of plant or animal pests, contributing to the restoration of native species and the biosecurity within our landscapes. Every operation is different and can require a range of control methods, adding a touch of diversity to day-to-day tasks. Our work employs various control methods, such as:
Spraying
Using hand tools
Operating chainsaws
Employing animal-related techniques like trapping and deploying toxins
Given the nature of our work, our team frequently operates in remote and secluded areas, providing the opportunity to experience NZ off the beaten track. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to acquire new skills and obtain NZQA qualifications while being part of an industry-leading company. Our team is based out of Pleasant Point and travels to operational sites across the South Island. Within the role, you will be required to stay away for the working week (Mon through Fri) which can vary between our houses in Twizel to shearer's quarters and DoC huts.

This is a physically demanding field-based position that will take you deep into the native bush and high country. The successful applicant will:
Be physically fit and capable of carrying heavy loads across steep mountainous terrain, not for the faint-hearted
Have experience in pest control or biosecurity work
Enjoy a native New Zealand environment
Have the ability to work away from the Pleasant Point HCC base
Possess good communication skills
Have the ability to drive off-road vehicles
Have a strong commitment to health and safety
And most importantly, have a positive work attitude and a great work ethic
The following are desirable but not essential:
A qualification or experience in pest control
A full class 1 Driver's License
First Aid Certificate
Qualifications in ATV, LUV and 4WD use
GrowSafe Certification or Controlled Substance License
NZQA unit standards in chainsaw use or a qualification in plant pest management or in the forestry sector
