As an Environmental Advisor, you'll join the River Operations team that is engaged with work in managing flood and erosion protection works and drainage across the region. This key role supports improving environmental practices for the operational teams and providing advice about environmental rules.
More about the role:
Providing advice to the wider organisation and outside entities, on good environmental practice
Help write, review, and monitor Environmental plans and the Codes of Practice under which the Rivers Section works
Assist with the Rivers Section to develop and update Standards of Operations for work practices
Assist with reviewing, reporting and understanding resource consent conditions
Coordinate and champion Health and Safety information, produce safety plans, ensure systems are followed and carry out works audits
Undertake audits of both Environmental practice and Health and Safety on site works
Ideally, you'll have a degree in natural science or resource management and/or other relevant training or experience. You'll play a key role in nurturing ongoing relationships across various stakeholders while providing valuable guidance to the River Operational Teams and Engineers.

More about you:
Understanding of river environments & the environmental considerations associated when working in them
Confident communicator (written and verbal) with a wide variety of groups & individuals including facilitating community & stakeholder engagement
Problem solving experience, creative ideas & dispute resolution
Able to work both independently and within a team
The following are desirable, however, not required:
Specialist knowledge on riverine fish and/or birds
Knowledge of river pest plants and management practices in NZ
An understanding of flood protection practices
Understanding of GIS
Experience in using 4WD vehicles
