Te Kaika was founded by Otakou Health Limited (OHL), a charity with a vision to bring low-cost healthcare and social services to Dunedin's most vulnerable residents. With a mission of He Korowai Manaaki, or a cloak of care and support, Te Kaika takes a holistic approach to deliver a broad range of low-cost services that include but are not limited to; medical care, dental treatment, physiotherapy, outreach social services, exercise programmes, and appointments with our Ministry of Social Development caseworkers. Our teams work together with individuals, whanau and community to create personalised plans of care, support and development.

About the Role
The Dental Assistant provides chairside assistance and support to the dentist and other professionals in the practice. As part of the dental practice team, they will work within their scope of practice and be responsible for providing patient-centred, culturally appropriate, and individual care to patients. Patients should feel that they have been dealt with in a friendly, courteous manner and that all that can be done for them, has been done. "Going the extra mile" is our philosophy. The Dental Assistant works closely with the dentist and other team members to provide efficient, effective, professional services.
Responsibilities Include
Clinical Services:
Patient Service - Surgery preparation and layout of instruments and equipment is complete prior to patient attendance.
Providing Assistance
Maintaining cross infection control standards
Equipment maintenance
Cultural Competence:
Recognise and respect cultural diversity
Recognise that culture includes, but is not restricted to age, gender, sexual orientation, occupation, socioeconomic status, ethnic or migrant experience, religion or disability.
Compliance:
Practices within the scope of practice set by the Dental Council of New Zealand.
Complies with established health and safety policies with regard to handling of instruments, infection control, storage of drugs and disposal of sharps and other potentially dangerous equipment and substances.
Qualifications, Experience and Education
Previous experience as a Dental Assistant (Not Essential)
Be passionate about providing exceptional patient care
Dental software and technology experience (Not Essential)
