Te Turanga | About the role: Our Data Platform Team, within the Transformation and Technology Group, develops the data environment that drives business insights through dashboards, reports, and self-service capabilities.
The Data Engineers play a crucial role in our Data Strategy & Engagement Programme (DS&E) and are supporting the introduction of a cloud-based Modern Data Platform to replace our traditional on-premises data warehouse.
Our team work in both our Dunedin and Christchurch based Hubs, so we are open to applicants looking to work in either location.
Te Mahi | Key Responsibilities: You'll be contributing to technical development, reviewing requirements, and refining the backlog.
Your proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making will be key, as will your ability to engage with analysts and business users, providing technical support and maintaining transparency.
In this role, you will: Develop and maintain robust data platform and reporting solutions.
Collaborate with team members on technical tasks, sharing knowledge and upholding best practices.
Support the development of data models, flows, and integration patterns.
Ou Pukenga | About You: Ideally, you're a data practitioner with strong BI modelling and development fundamentals who can be another leader within the group.
Cloud experience would be great but isn't necessary for someone who has the experience to successfully undertake the core of this role.
In terms of attributes, you'll be an effective communicator and relationship-builder.
You'll maintain a customer-focused approach, respond to needs and issues, and work collaboratively with business partners.
Understanding and adhering to data management standards and policies, you'll resolve data quality issues and contribute to developing standards and procedures.
As a successful candidate, you'll bring: A tertiary qualification in Computer Science or a related discipline.
Prior experience in a technical role within BI, Data, or Software Development.
Effective communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Technology Specific: Understanding of data modeling concepts and techniques, including relational, dimensional, and NoSQL data models.
Capable of contributing to the design and optimization of data models to support data queries and analysis.
Proficiency in processing moderate volumes of data using batch and basic real-time data processing techniques, such as ETL and ELT.
Familiarity with data integration and data warehousing concepts.
Competence in one or more programming languages, such as Python or SQL.
Experience working with cloud computing platforms, with exposure to platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud at a basic level.
Basic understanding of data security best practices and the ability to contribute to the implementation of secure data solutions that protect sensitive data.
