As a data specialist, you'll get to work alongside our multi-skilled team of technicians and analysts managing water quality and ecology data from both freshwater and marine environments. Your key focus will be to ensure our datasets have the right information, in the right place, and at the right time (high quality data, easily accessible and within timeframes). You'll play a critical role in database administration, resolving data issues, supporting database users and performing a range of analysis that contributes to the good advice that our science team delivers. You'll also get the chance to assist the field team with data collection, processing and archiving.
More about the role:
Perform regular quality assurance checks on various datasets Respond to internal and external data requests Test and deploy new database versions and software Maintain complex spreadsheets effectively Use data analysis tools proficiently, such as Excel, Power BI, and scripting language Develop and maintain documentation for database systems and procedures In addition to you core responsibilities, you'll have the chance to be involved in specialist projects aimed at advancing our data collection and management processes. These projects will focus on driving efficiency, enhancing data quality and meeting National Environmental Standards (NEMS).
Ideally you'll have a master's degree in a relevant field, or a bachelor's degree plus 2 years professional experience. A good understanding of water quality and ecology data is essential, as is experience in database management or data handling software.

Excellent attention to detail and a methodical nature Effective trouble shooting and problem solving skills Self motivation and the focus to be highly productive The vision to develop and improve data processes Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams A positive and inclusive team attitude A clean and current class 1 driver's license is required. Confidence in working alone, especially around water, and strong swimming ability are necessary. Sound decision making skills and previous experience in environmental data collection are also essential
