This role is integral to our commitment to enhancing player performance, optimising training strategies, and contributing to the club's ongoing success both on and off the field.
About the Role: The purpose of this Lead Performance Scientist role is to lead the alignment and delivery of the sports science program for the Crusaders, to assist in the team delivering world-class performance and developing world-class players.
This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week that will be based in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Hours of work will be between the hours of 7:30am to 7:30pm, Monday to Sunday.
Salary range: NZD85,000 – 95,000 per annum for the right candidate.
Assisting with the performance preparation of the Crusaders by overseeing all aspects of the Crusaders performance monitoring systems including further enhancement of data collection, processing, and reporting methods.
Lead the use of sport science technology for the purpose of collating, analysing, and reporting on all performance monitoring data to ensure optimal player loading for conditioning, recovery, performance, and competition analysis.
Undertake research projects, personal development opportunities and innovation to support the medical, strength and conditioning and performance analysis departments ensuring they remain leaders in best practice.
Develop and proactively drive and facilitate functional working relationships with Crusaders Academy and Bunnings NPC Cup teams' performance staff, including CRFU and Tasman to ensure seamless transition between competitions and Crusaders contracted or development players.
Support the Crusaders International Academy Manager in the development and delivery of player, coach, and support staff development programs.
Ensure all occupational safety and health obligations are met through attending and encouraging other staff attendance and participation in the business's health and safety system.
About You: To be successful in this role, you will need to have a Masters degree or equivalent in exercise physiology or relevant field, including a proven ability in research, data analysis and reporting including an outstanding level of understanding of performance monitoring and analysis tools in the rugby union environment.
You will need to demonstrate extensive experience in the use of a wide range of performance enhancing and monitoring technology to develop and implement cutting-edge sports scientist strategies.
Have at least five years' experience working in a high performance environment, preferably in rugby or a collision-based sport and be expert in the use of, amongst other technologies and software, Catapult GPS systems and Power BI.
Working closely with coaches, physiotherapists, and support staff, you will be a team player and have the ability to develop strong working relationships and effectively communicate analytical information.
