Counsellor - AOD & Mental Health (1 Year Fixed Term) Te Kaika Community-Based Alcohol and Other Drug and Addictions Service provides alcohol and other drug addictions services within and alongside an integrated site of health, social and educational services in Dunedin for all people.
Our services are designed and delivered from a Te Ao Maori worldview and include one-to-one counselling and whanau support.
Maori centred models of relational care are available to tangata whaiora (with moderate to severe substance use issues) and their whanau.
Our range of roles are unique to Kaupapa Maori and include kaimahi who have lived experience, are clinically competent and culturally safe.
About the Position The purpose of the Counsellor - AOD & Mental Health position is to provide respectful engagement, modelling hope for recovery and encouraging self-awareness about what works for the person and their whanau.
The Counsellor - AOD & Mental Health is an essential part of community services and an integral part of an individual's and whanau recovery, specialising in helping people overcome alcohol, substance, drug, and behavioural addictions.
Group facilitation and recovery-focused activities for people who are working towards their wellbeing and addiction recovery are key to the role.
The Applicant will have: A qualification/s and experience in mental health, alcohol and other drug addictions or a related field.
Full registration as a DAPAANZ practitioner.
Previous experience in an addiction treatment service or related service and field.
An ability to demonstrate robust clinical expertise in addictions and the ability to positively influence service development.
Competency in data and digital resource management and high-level report writing.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, people skills and the ability to build productive relationships.
Lived personal experience of addiction with an understanding of recovery.
A deep sense of, and belief in recovery for people and their whanau.
A respectful non-judgemental attitude that demonstrates kindness and compassion.
An ability to navigate the complex boundaries inherent in recovery-oriented support with whaiora and other clinicians.
Knowledge of Te Reo, Tikanga, Te Ao Maori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Valid Full Class 1 Driver Licence.
Prepared to complete Police Vet check.
